Birthday Girl

To begin Paige's birthday festivities we took cupcakes to school to share with her class - so fun!!

The birthday girl sporting her birthday hat given to her by her teachers.

I am so glad we were both able to be there to share this time with Paige!

Yes, I brought chocolate cupcakes...and boy were they good!

Not sure if you can tell, but her little hand is on my shoulder.  I almost needed a bath as much as she did after being her napkin - ha!

All done!!

The family party is this weekend and we can't wait!!!

12 Months!!

Happy 1st Birthday, Paige!!

You are one year old!  I guess time flies when you are having fun, and boy has this past year been fun!  I am amazed at how much is learned in the first year of life.  I don't think you realize it until you start to experience it first hand.

Where do I even begin recapping this month and year?

You continue to be the happiest baby.  You don't meet a stranger, mainly because you will stare them down until you get them to break down and smile.  You are a ham for attention.  I think this goes with the stranger thing.  You love all of the teachers at school and they love you.  I am the parent who goes in and talks for awhile at pick up time.  Just last week I plopped down for a good 15 or so minutes and visited with your teacher and watched you interact with the other kids and teachers.  I think every teacher came by and said hi, and you greeted each one with a smile and wanted each one to hold you, and of course they did.  Ms. Melissa and I had good talk about all the things you loved and at the end we realized there isn't a thing you don't like.

You continue to be a great eater. 3 square meals a day with 2 to 3 snacks scattered here and there.  Breakfast is still your favorite meal of the day and I may have to say bananas are your favorite food.  I didn't realize a 1 year old could eat an entire banana in one sitting!

One of the biggest changes of the month is that you started going to sleep on your own in your crib.  Those reading may be thinking, "she is just now doing this?" and yes, she is.  You did great being rocked to sleep in the recliner in the den for so long we didn't want to break what wasn't broken.  Well, then this started to change.  Going to sleep in the rocker just wasn't working.  I just knew it was going to take you 2 hours to go to sleep on your own the first night.  I felt very prepared - I decided you would go to bed at 7:30 so you would be asleep by 9:30 and that seemed like you would still good a fairly decent night's sleep and I had figured out my "check-up" schedule for you, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, etc.  My plan was totally not your plan.  I put you down and you cried.  I came back 5 minutes and you were still crying, but sometime over the next 10 minutes you fell asleep on your own.  Within 15 minutes you were asleep!  I thought this may be a fluke and that the next night I probably wouldn't be as lucky - wrong!!  You were sleep within 1 minute.  Now you don't make a peep when we put you down - amazing!  I think we did this a just the right time; you knew it was time for you to fall asleep in your crib on your own.

Walking - just this past Thursday night you took your first few steps on your own while we were at Matt and Jamie's house!!!  So awesome!!  You are by no means a full fledge walker but I don't think it will be too long!

You love to play!  Each afternoon we get home and you just play, play, play.  As I have mentioned before, there isn't really a particular toy you must play with, but you must play with all of them!  You love to flip through books and you like to help me read them to you.  Each afternoon when I pick you up from school I am greeted with a big smile and you kind of come say hi.  You get close enough to make sure I know you love me, but then you go back to playing.  When I pick you up to leave, you don't want to go!

Basic stats - you weigh 21 lbs, wear size 3 diaper, size 12 month clothes, and have 5 teeth.  I think you wear a size 3 shoe but since we don't really wear shoes I don't know.

1 Year Ago Today

It is amazing that is just one year we go
from this...

to...

Words cannot begin to explain how happy and thankful I am today; today we celebrate birth of our sweet little baby. I cannot believe it has already been a year. Where did the time go? Thinking back, I knew I would love her with all of my heart and I knew I would love her in a way like no other, but what I didn’t realize was just how amazing and describable that love truly is. It is not something you can describe until you experience it.

I have decided that birthdays are more for the parents than for the one actually having the birthday. Yes, as kids, we all enjoyed our birthday, but now as a parent I can truly appreciate a birthday. It is such a day of reflection for the parents. Thinking ahead to my birthday – wahoo, I am another year older. For my mom and dad, they are given an opportunity to think back to the day I was born and all that it entailed. Over the past few weeks I have recounted all the events leading up to Paige’s birthday, remember where we ate and what we did each day. We even semi-celebrated Paige’s potential birthday. It is funny to me how February 2nd will never be the same because of that.

I feel so lucky and blessed to have Paige call me, “Momma” and as I talk to God daily, I continually thank Him for this opportunity.

Happy 1st Birthday, Paige!!

Babysitting

We had the priviledge of watching Ella and Myles Saturday morning.  I just love these kids!!!  They are so easy and it was so much fun to see Paige interact with them.

Ella was so sweet to play with the little ones. You have to know the poor girl probably gets bored with the 2 of them around.

Well, that is about it...not much to this.  Just wanted to share some pictures of my 3 sweet angels!

What We've Been up to Lately...

I realized I hadn't updated the blog in awhile and decided I needed to give an update.  Well, there isn't really anything to update with.  We have just been doing our normal thing and enjoying what comes our way.

Let's see some highlights of the last few weeks...we tried some new things one weekend, like sushi and a new restaurants (yummy Tin Top in Bon Secour).

We've decided that everything needs to be pushed, not just the stroller.  This cracks me up because she will be playing and next thing you know you hear a chair moving or see the play slide moving (I would have thought this was too heavy to move, but not for Super P).

Paige now loves to get under things like chairs or end tables.  This the fun game of getting in and out of the chair.

There is a chance P may sit still in her chair if "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" is on.

Just sit back and relax, Mickey is here.

Field Trip!

Yesterday I had a really neat opportunity to tour one of the Corps tugboats and barge.  One my friend's, Lauren, dad is the Captain of one of the boats and the boat was dry docked for repairs.  He invited us to come down for a tour and lunch - so neat!!

Sorry the pictures are that great - they were taken with a blackberry.

One of the propeller things under the boat.  The actual propeller thing has been taken off and that is one of the things they are working on.

Views from the driver's seat.
This reminded me of the part of the cruise ship you never get to see.
Look at the big windshield wipers!

Aren't we cute sportin' the hard hats?
This picture does not show the magnitude of how really big this crane is...this is just the bottom third.  Can you imagine being the operator of this?!?  Look at the big digger thing to the right!

I am not sure if this is used to pick up rocks or limbs...there is a claw thing for each.

Paige-isms

This post is really more for me, the mom, so that I can remember some of Paige's favorite things...

I started thinking more about what Paige is doing these days.  Like does she have any favorite toys or favorite things to do?  Is she attached to anything or are there any favorite "games" she likes to play?  At first I couldn't reallly come up with anything and then thoughts just started flowing...

Favorite game: Peek-a-boo!  We have been playing this for a very long time and it has always been a favorite.  It is so cute to see her be the one doing it.  She will take anything she can find and put it in front her of her face trying to hide.  This includes her hands, paper she finds lying around, toys, burp clothes, whatever.  The funny part of it is when she doesn't quite cover one of her eyes and we can see her.  It just cracks me up because we are saying "where's Paige" we can see one eye.

Favorite toy: She doesn't really have a favorite toy.  She likes to play with each toy for a little bit then she moves on to the next one.

The spoon: We got her this toy pot that came with veggies and a spoon for Christmas.  The spoon is now attached to her at the hip.  Like the other night she was eating dinner, in one hand is the spoon and she is using the other to eat.  She couldn't figure out how to pick up her milk one-handed and got mad when we took the spoon away so she could drink.  I was laughing with Brad as she went to sleep holding the spoon.  Some kids have security blankets and our's has a security spoon - ha!

Animal noises: We have been working on our animal noises a lot lately.  Here in the past few days we started making so progress and it was so cute!  We found a sheep that 'baaas' when you press it.  So, we were doing 'what does a sheep say?  baaaaa" and making the sheep make that noise.  Next thing you know, Paige is saying, 'aaaaaa'.  Too cute!  Dogs now say 'uuu' instead of ruff and cows say 'oohh' instead of moo.

The mirror: Paige loves to look at herself in the mirror.  Do I sense a diva in the making?!?  When she starts getting antsy and needs something else to do, just a find a mirror and she is good to go - it could be a big mirror like at a mall or a small mirror in a compact (thanks Elizabeth!).

(Please note the spoon in one hand and the compact in the other.)

Forget the paci when you have a spoon!
(The paci has already fallen out, but she is still holding tight to the spoon.)
